Unit 1 Reflection
Unit 1 Reflection
For my curated source collection for Unit #1, I chose to have my sources focus on the idea of technological evolution and the way it influences or contributes to communication. The quality of my sources are efficient, as I believe that I chose a solid range from different reputable sources/authors. I used New York Times, Forbes, TedTalk, and a keynote presentation. I also made sure to include different time eras for a range of opinions/points of views regarding technology.
To enhance my project, technology was actually quite beneficial. I needed to use my computer as well as an online blog platform to have somewhere to post my curated sources and other blogs. I enjoyed using this website, as it was easy to navigate and post content on. I used online databases like the Syracuse library as well as google search in order to look for my sources for the project. When it came time to utilize the sources for instance, the keynote presentation was a bit lengthy to follow along. Therefore, I found a transcription of the presentation online to simplify the wording especially when looking for evidence.
To challenge myself this unit, I wanted to ensure that I selected different mediums for sources so that I could have a variety of options and evidence to analyze. I enjoyed choosing the presentation especially, and I personally enjoyed reading the Pencil shop source. The keynote presentation provided a verbal perspective and as someone who is a listener rather than a reader, I feel that Steve Jobs’ words were more profound in his speech to someone like me, especially with the use of storytelling and visual aids. The written sources that I chose were also good, and I enjoyed that some had bias a bit while others maintained a neutral tone and tried to keep it more 'technological.' The pencil shop showed the flaws of the evolution of technology and how there are in fact people who attempt to cling onto traditional communication methods.
I could see myself using these sources for the next units possibly, but I also would like to find more sources with a negative perspective of the technological emergence in our day to day lives. My sources are mainly in support of technology, looking at it as a way that has revolutionized the way that individuals are able to communicate with each other. Kelly even looked at technology as something similar to a biological organism that continues to grow and develop. I am curious as to how I can use my sources for my Unit 2, so I'm excited to explore that or to even just change my sources and find better ones possibly.
